Situated in the stunning Dullstroom region, Komati Gorge has plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. And one of the best outdoor activities that you can partake in, if you are a keen runner or if you are simply someone who enjoys a long walk, is the Komati Gorge Valentine’s Day Run/Walk!
Hosted by Komati Gorge, one of the leading lodges in Mpumalanga, this year’s Valentines Run is going to be hosted on the 27th of February 2016. Runners and walkers of all skill levels are welcome to join in on the fun and the trail will consist of various lengths to suit the various runners. The run will begin at the lodge and you will have to get to the lodge on time to participate. We ask that you don’t use a GPS co-ordinator but that you rather use the map that is available on the website. We have no cell reception at the lodge so please take note that it might be impossible to make calls from your phone.
On the day of the Valentines Run we will have plenty of parking made available near to the trout dam. Keep an eye out for the lodge personnel who will be standing out in green overalls. They will be able to direct you to a parking space.
You will need to register and check-in for the race, this is for your safety and so that we can keep track of who will be participating. We encourage you to pre-register as a participant by sending an email to the lodge (firstname.lastname@example.org) however you can register on the day of the run. Make sure that when you arrive you head to the breakfast room. Then you will need to register, sign the indemnity form and pick up your running numbers. You may not run without your number.
We offer a 21km, 12km, 6km and 2km trails and each event will start at a different time. Those who wish to participate in the 21km should be at the event at 7.00, the 12km race will begin at 8.00, the 6km event will start at 8.30, while the final event, the 2km run/walk, will begin at 9.00. Each run will be held along a different part of the trail. Each group will start and complete the race at the lodge. Once you cross the finishing line please be sure to let a race official tear off your number as it is going to be placed into a lucky draw. If you wish to record your own time you may do so (we will not record times) and be sure to collect your gift at the end of the run.
We would like to stress that you will be responsible for your own wellbeing while out on the trail so be sure to be checked out by your doctor before the race should you need a check-up. There will be paramedics on site.
We hope that you enjoy the Valentine’s Trail Run with Komati Gorge and remember, only leave your footprints behind. We look forward to seeing you there! Contact us for more information.
